Ellen Magee and Guy Fields nominated Dennis as “a small way to say ‘Thanks!’ for everything he does for us and the neighborhood.

“Our neighbor and friend Dennis Lorch makes our neighborhood a better place to live. Many of our over-the-fence conversations used to be mainly focused on our dogs and home and property maintenance. Dennis always offers excellent advice and is always willing to loan a roof rake, wheel barrow or to pump up a tire. When his wife had a stroke, our relationship with Dennis seemed to take a turn. We exchanged phone numbers and after Dennis retired in order to care for his wife, we began we to see more of him. After several long years, our neighbor’s wife passed away and we grieved with him. We then noticed Dennis was spending more time helping us plow snow and has even begun mowing our front yard when he does his own each week. This help has been greatly appreciated!

Finally, this summer, with the help of a student friend in the building trades, we began a project refurbishing an old wooden play structure in our yard. The task required more carpentry tools and skills than expected and we asked Dennis for his help. His response was over-the-top helpful! He loaned his tools and eventually lent hands-on assistance with drilling, etc. His kindness was especially meaningful to our student helper and he offered continuing support to her for a subsequent project.”
