Northside
Neighborhood Plan enters next phase
By Jule Stroick, City of Madison Planning
Division
The next phase of the City of Madison's Northside Neighbor-
hood Plan is underway. Officially known as the Northport-Warner
Park-Sherman Neighborhood Plan, the City Planning Division is
working with the residents and business owners appointed to
the plan Steering Committee to develop an update to the original
Northside plan, adopted in 1992. The plan update will be used
by city policymakers when decisions relating to community services,
land use, redevelopment, circulation improvements and numerous
other relevant issues are addressed in the next five-10 years.

Plan
expanded to cover more of Northside
As a result of discussions with Northside residents serving
on the Steering Committee, and with the support of Alders Satya
Rhodes-Conway and Michael Schumacher and the Northside Planning
Council, the City of Madison has expanded the plan boundaries
to include all of the plan-eligible neighborhoods on the Northside
as one unified planning area, rather than doing two separate
plans. “Joining the two phases of the project to allow
for a single, unified plan was very important,” said Jeff
Shokler, Northside Planning Council vice-chair. “We're
looking forward to building upon the Northside unity developed
over the past 15 years to devise strategies that address the
entire community's priority issues.”

Zoning code rewrite work continues
Can I have chickens? What if I
live in duplex? Can we start a co-op? Can I build a granny apartment
over my garage?
By Mike Basford
The City of Madison Zoning Code Rewrite process
is finishing up the initial work on the analysis and issue-identification
phase of the project.
The new zoning code will have an effect on how the city continues
to grow and how land (including many parcels on the Northside)
will be redeveloped.
